Representative Dean Phillips from MN stopped by and was willing to take Sam Schwartz and a few survivors to visit the Capitol bldg and hand deliver a note urging Senator Schumer to bring up a vote on SB25 to ban assault weapons. They also urged Democrat holdouts to come and visit the sit-in and discuss the bill with survivors. The list of attendees at the sit-in includes the following Congress members – Summer Lee, Rashida Khalid, Maxwell Alejandro Frost, Jared Moscowitz, Kirsten Gillibrand, Chris Van Hollen, Bernie Sanders, Ilhan Omar, Eric Swalwell, Dan Goldman, Hank Johnson, Pat Ryan, Elizabeth Warren, Lois Frankel, Jamaal Bowman, Cory Booker, Joaquin Castro, Jeff Merkley, Lucy McBath, Rosa DeLauro, Jimmy Gomez and Dean Phillips. Laura Dern from Jurassic Park and Star Wars fame also stopped by with her daughter Jaya to visit with the survivors and advocates to encourage them in their efforts. Any weapon that can kill 30 people is less than 5 minutes is a weapon of war and should not be in the hands of civilians. There is clearly a health issue in the United States with gun violence. Banning assault weapons is the very least that can be done by our elected officials to save American lives – in particular children’s lives. Please urge your representatives in the Senate to support and pass the SB25 bill to ban assault weapons.
